Hawkdun Rise is a boutique vineyard-stay near the town of Alexandra in Central Otago, New Zealand and the first such Bed & Breakfast in the region.

Stay with us and enjoy our comfortable, spacious accommodation surrounded by stunning landscapes in the heart of New Zealand's beautiful and most exciting wine region.

Hawkdun Rise is close to Alexandra, Cromwell, Queenstown and Wanaka, you will enjoy the tranquillity, privacy, great views and great wine.

Situated on the outskirts of Alexandra our homestead and vineyard has been especially designed to provide an atmosphere of quiet and peaceful relaxation giving you the maximum privacy of your choice and a setting within the vines.

We have 2 Queen size bedrooms complete with their own separate en-suites and exterior doors to verandahs along with a further double bedroom that is connected to the main suite. The rooms overlook the vineyard and your privacy is assured. Share an evening complimentary glass of Hawkdun Rise wine while overlooking the vineyard and surrounding mountains. Breakfast consists of fresh local fruits in season accompanied by cereals and light cooked dishes served at the long table.

Hawkdun Rise Vineyard & Accommodation has achieved the Sustainability standard in the Vineyard and our long term aim is to keep it as sustainable and footprint-free as possible.

Keeping it Local – We endeavour to use locally grown products, in order to support our local community and to cut down on the travel distances and costs. Most of our food is sourced locally & where possible organic. We use “Jeymar” products for our bathrooms they produce an exciting range of natural handmade products, shampoo, conditioners, hand crèmes soaps. Etc.

Energy Efficiency - Hawkdun Rise is fully insulated and has double glazed windows which cut down on unnecessary electricity consumption. We are in the process of increasing the insulation in the ceiling space.

Our Backyard - At Hawkdun Rise we are lucky to have a wonderful vegetable garden which John loves to work in and loves to share his organically grown vegetables with guests and the neighbours. We have tomatoes and potatoes from the garden usually right through to September. Plenty of other vegetables are frozen for off season use. All suitable material from the property is composted and returned to the garden where possible. We have free range chickens which roam around and enjoy most of our food scraps. They provide most of our egg requirements for the year.

The Wine
The Hawkdun Rise vineyard is small, planted in 1994. The vineyard is planted in predominantly Pinot Noir with a small amount of Gewürztraminer.
