Public Relations & Media

TCO’s Public Relations and Media activity focuses on raising and maintaining the profile of our region as a visitor destination in the eyes of domestic and international
media, as well as communicating this activity to local tourism operators and key stakeholders.

MEDIA FAMILIARISATIONS AND HOSTING

By giving media the opportunity to directly experience a product or service during their stay in Central Otago, operators will often receive valuable coverage or reviews that will be read by a domestic and international audience. A positive article written from these visits builds an awareness that might otherwise not have been realised and often leads to an increase in sales.

As a Regional Tourism Organisation, media recognise that we have an extensive knowledge of the local industry and represent a large cross-section of the region’s businesses. For this reason we are often the first point of contact when they are researching a story or filming opportunity.

Our PR objectives include creating and sustaining media relationships and providing them with regular, relevant and reliable material. Key messages are targeted to both domestic and international markets, resulting in an increased awareness of the events and attractions that visitors to Central Otago will encounter.

We proactively target media visits each year, hosting quality New Zealand based media to aid in increasing the awareness of Central Otago and leverage current campaign messages into their markets and publications.

INTERNATIONAL MEDIA

TCO also collaborate with Tourism New Zealand in its International Media Programme, ensuring that Central Otago features in appropriate off shore media outlets. This programme targets international media to produce motivating, accurate and inspirational coverage of New Zealand as a quality tourism destination encouraging the ‘interactive traveller’ to visit.

TCO supplies domestic and international media with extensive support including general information, story angles, features and images.

Media results may be viewed on: www.centralotagonz.com/trade-and-media/media/results

Operators can benefit from this cost-effective access to international and domestic media by regulary providing us with up to date business information and imagery.
