Roxburgh & Teviot Valley Community Plan

Roxburgh and the Teviot Valley is located half an hour south of Alexandra and is less than two hours from both Dunedin and Invercargill. It is renowned for its iconic apricots and Jimmy’s Pies, the Roxburgh dam, the Roxburgh Children’s Health Camp and its Scottish connections.

The population in the valley is near 1700 with over 560 living in Roxburgh itself.

Heritage is an important aspect of the local community with pastoralism, gold discovery and fruit growing providing a rich tapestry for the early history of the Teviot Valley. These days pastoral farming is a key driver in the valley and summer fruit and pipfruit are major industries.

The plan addresses a number of key issues including:
The creation of a business group and the consideration of how it might support existing businesses
Engagement with the community’s youth and recognition of them as an enthusiastic catalyst for new enterprises
Investigation of free wifi for the Teviot Valley
Develop ideas for how to improve the appearance of Roxburgh’s main street
Community “brainstorm” a full list of possible events, evaluating the potential of each and canvassing support for them
Explore the feasibility of developing a sustainable fishing resource.
