Cromwell & Bannockburn | Cycling & Mountain Bike Trails

Surrounded by treeless mountain ranges and the powerful Clutha and Kawarau Rivers that converge to form Lake Dunstan, is Cromwell; the place to experience its abundance of sun-ripened fruits, award winning wines and rich mining past.

Carricktown / Young Australian

The Carricktown Trail is an awe inspiring adrenaline-bumping ride high on the Carrick Range. This trail takes you behind Bannockburn and into another time – the site of another gold town from the 19th century.

Cromwell to Bannockburn - Lakeside

This easy ride takes you along the shoreline up on to the terrace of the Kawarau Arm overlooking Lake Dunstan from Old Cromwell Town to near the Bannockburn Bridge at Pearson Road. Generally this trail is flat, smooth surfaced with gentle undulations – a ride for the whole family.

Dunstan Lakeside

This easy ride is suitable for the whole family, runs beside the shoreline of Lake Dunstan from Old Cromwell Town up to Lowburn and return. Expect a flat and smooth trail with some sandy sections which follows a single or 4WD track.

Bannockburn Sluicings

The trail loops around the former Bannockburn gold field, providing a vivid slice of history and a rewarding perspective of times gone by. From 1862 to the 1930’s the area was sluiced and mined, so you are sure to see remains of dams, water races, tunnels and towering cliff faces.
