Road Cycling in Central Otago

Central Otago boasts a diversity of options for road cycling, with numerous quiet roads throughout stunning landscapes. Our quiet roads often pass by orchards, vineyards and farms, or traverse beside rivers and lakes.

Whether riding around Lake Dunstan, meandering through the roads of the Maniototo, or riding a loop of the Alexandra Basin you'll be treated to stunning views of tor-studded mountain ranges.

Road Cycling Events in Central Otago

The annual Lake Dunstan Cycle Challenge offers 96kms of generally flat road cycling around Lake Dunstan in early January, this is the way to see the countryside and enjoy your little taste of road touring. Get in a bunch and get sucked along the country roads; maybe you’ll compete in the front peloton or find your own buddies to cover the distance with.

The Central Otago Wakatipu Cycle Club also hold races most Sunday’s through the summer. For more information see their website on Central Otago Road Cycling events.

Informal groups that meet for weekly road cycling and mountain bike rides can be found in our "Ride with the locals section"
