Education

Central Otago is well serviced with educational opportunities available through pre-school facilities and kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as a branch of the Otago Polytechnic and a Rural Education Activities Programme outlet.

Alexandra has three primary schools and a selection of pre-school facilities.  Dunstan High School is co-educational and also has boarding facilities. Alexandra is also home to Central Otago's Rural Education Activities Programme (REAP) which provides the district with courses from early childhood through primary and secondary schooling to continuing education for the adult community.

Cromwell has three pre-school facilities and two primary schools, plus Cromwell College - a co-educational secondary school.  Cromwell also hosts the Central Campus for Otago Polytechnic.  Central Campus Otago Polytechnic specialises in horticulture, catering and tourism.  Its Crop Centre provides advisory services to horticulturalists on commercially-viable new crops.

Ranfurly has a pre-school facility, two primary schools and a co-educational secondary school - Maniototo Area School.  Roxburgh two pre-school facilities and the Roxburgh Area School, which caters for both primary and secondary levels.

There are further primary schools at Millers Flat, Tarras, Clyde, Omakau and Poolburn.  Secondary schooling for these areas are met by Alexandra, Cromwell, Roxburgh, Ranfurly.
